2009 Professional Panel Guests
John Gibson
Director of Business Development - York Revolution
John’s primary area of responsibility with the Revolution is in sponsorship and advertising sales. He also directs the Internship program and has oversight of the Weis Downtown Playground, including all maintenance and repairs of the carousel.
“Mr.” Gibson (Gibby, as he's know to all) has been with the Revolution from the start of the franchise, arriving in York in October 2006. Previously, he worked for the Somerset Patriots of the Atlantic League from 2004 through the 2006 season. Prior to the Patriots, Gibson lived in the land of milk and honey known as Brockton, Massachusetts, where he helped establish the Brockton Rox, a member of the Can-Am League. In Brockton, Gibson worked for legendary minor league baseball owner Mike Veeck, and owners Bill Murray and Lorne Michaels.
Gibson entered the sports industry upon earning an MBA from Georgia Tech in Atlanta, GA. Upon meeting John, you would probably guess that he was an environmental consultant in his first career, and earned his undergraduate degree in Earth Sciences from Penn State.
John lives in North York, and is an avid collector of vinyl records. If you have any you want to get rid of, please let him know. He has traveled extensively in New Zealand and Indonesia, and is a diehard Philly fan, although he doesn’t seem bothered by this. As a witness to the Phillies parading down Broad Street, John hopes to see that sight again in 2009. Even if it’s the Philadelphia Wings. (Indoor Lacrosse)
John can deadlift 800 pounds and is currently training for the 2009 Stihl Timbersports Lumberjack series.
Jason Peck
Entrepreneur, Internet Marketer, Consultant and Blogger
Jason is an entrepreneur, internet marketer, consultant and blogger. His blog focuses on sports business, sponsorship, new media, social networking, and whatever else he can find interesting. He originally started his blog back in March 2006 as a place for him to get his thoughts out about advertising, where he thought his career was headed at the time. When he landed a job in sports consulting, he decided to focus his blog more towards his knowledge in sports and what he was reading about outside of work that related to the sports business world. As his blog has grown he has had the opportunity to meet some other sports business bloggers and exchange ideas. Jason has a B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication, Advertising Sequence and a Creative Writing Minor from the University of North Carolina.
His other projects include Sports Biz Feed, a site that aggregates major sports business blogs so you don’t have to waste time looking at multiple websites for news. For a slimmed down version, check out the Sports Biz Feed Squidoo Lens. He also runs North Hills Buzz a blog-community discussing news restaurants and anything else relating to North Hills, a growing area in Raleigh, North Carolina. Jason currently works for eWayDirect as project manager of their social media platform.
